NSS launch campaign against Council Prayers12.00.00am GMT Mon 18th Jan 2010 The National Secular Society have begun a campaign against prayers being said at council meetings. The NSS are not seeking to restrict freedom of worship. If some Council members wish to pray, there is no problem with them doing so before Council meetings. But this should be separate from the meetings and preferably not in the same room, so that those arriving for the meeting are not inconvenienced. A number of individual councillors (some of them Liberal Democrats) have campaigned against prayers in their own councils locally, and the NSS are attempting to broaden the campaign.
