Inclusive School Assemblies - the video

3 Nov 2021

Our fifth Liberal Democrat Conference virtual event, held on 19th September 2021.

Inclusive School Assemblies

How Baroness Lorely Burt's Inclusive Assemblies Bill in the House of Lords would make assemblies in non-religious schools inclusive for all students, whatever their religion or belief.

Why existing law, which requires most state schools to hold daily assemblies "of a broad Christian character", even though most children in many areas come from non-Christian families, needs reform.

With

  • Baroness Lorely Burt;
  • Reverend Stephen Terry, Chair of the Accord Coalition for Inclusive Education;
  • Lee & Lizanne Harris, parents.

Chaired by Lucy Nethsingha, educationalist and leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Cambridgeshire County Council.

Moderated by Toby Keynes, HSLD Chair.
