All Party Humanist Group to discuss humanist weddings

Next Monday, the All Party Parliamentary Humanist Group will meet to discuss giving humanist weddings legal status in England and Wales.

Despite being the becoming the third most popular form of wedding service in Scotland since they were given legal recognition in 2005, humanist weddings in England and Wales must be supplemented with a register office ceremony.

The panel will be made up of:

Dr Julian Baggini, Author and Editor of The Philosophers' Magazine

Caroline Black, Humanist celebrant

Philip Dear, Ministry of Justice

David Pollock, President of the European Humanist Federation and British Humanist Association Trustee

Chaired by: Rt Hon Lord Warner of Brockley (Chair of the APPHG).

The meeting is on Monday 19th March 2012, from 1pm to 2pm, in Committee Room Two, House of Lords.
