York Spring Conference 15-17 March 2019: a look ahead

HSLD will be at Spring Conference. There are two humanist-secularist events for your diaries:

Our Fringe event on "Is openness on your religion or belief and your sexuality a barrier to political office?"

Liberals believe in the right to be open about your personal religion or belief and your sexuality - but also the right to keep them private. We'll be exploring whether pressure to disclose your beliefs or sexuality deters people from public life.

The following will be speaking:

• Baroness Lorely Burt, a humanist, an HSLD Co-President, and ex LibDem Lords spokesperson on Equalities.
• Aderonke Apata, whose asylum application as a lesbian from Nigeria was only successful after major support from Liberal Democrat campaigners.
• Adrian Hyyrylainen-Trett, a gay humanist and HSLD Chair.

Q and A on adoption of "Islamophobia" definition

The party's Federal Board recently adopted a definition of "Islamophobia". Toby Keynes is challenging its decision to do so without consulting or involving the wider party membership. His question has been selected for discussion at conference. You can see the full text of Toby's question here. Please come to the session and show your support.
